Hubl Stories: Tayēr + Elementary

We caught up with Alex Kratena, co-founder of world-class bar, Tayēr + Elementary, to discuss all-things hospitality, business - and, of course, cocktails. About Tayēr + Elementary

Tayēr + Elementary is a cocktail bar situated in Old Street, in London, founded by Monica Berg and Alex Kratena.

Monica Berg and Alex Kratena are multi-award winning bartenders and entrepreneurs. Not only are they owners of Tayēr + Elementary, they are also co-founders of Muyu liqueurs and the drinks industry non-profit organisation P(OUR). In 2020 they won the Bar Innovators Of The Year Award by Class Magazine and during Covid-19 crisis launched Tayēr RTD, a collection of ready-to-drink bottled cocktails.

After landing in the World’s 50 Best Bars list at No.5, a higher position than all other new entries this year, Tayēr + Elementary was awarded Highest New Entry 2020.

Q&A with Alex Kratena

{Hubl} What is your favourite cocktail and why?

{Alex Kratena} My favourite cocktail is the one in my glass :) I drink different cocktails on different occasions depending on time, place and who I am with.

{Hubl} What’s the best thing about your job?

{Alex Kratena} My job is first of all a creative outlet, an opportunity to express myself and very selfishly we have built a bar we would like to go to.

{Hubl} What advice would you give to someone starting their own F&B business?

{Alex Kratena} You will never be 100% ready to launch the business, so don't wait, and jump into it, embrace the change and learn alongside the way.
